Carmen Bowen

Asking for help to address issues we face can be challenging, and it is an honor to get to walk with folks on their journey to finding joy. This starts with building trust and connection in a therapeutic relationship, to help you feel safe and empowered. I strive to do so through authenticity, humility, lightheartedness and a non-judgmental approach.

My prior experience includes nearly 14 years working in substance use treatment with clients and families in both individual and group settings. I have training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and motivational interviewing. My approach is also informed by systemic viewing, attachment theory, Humanistic, and trauma-informed care. Both personal and professional experiences lead me to blending holistic healing and intersectional identities to collaborate with you to identify patterns of behaviors, past and present experiences, emotions, relationships, self-esteem, transitions and other struggles.

Areas of interest include identity development and acceptance, issues related to substance use, LGBTQIA+ populations, grief and loss, guilt and shame, sexuality, intimacy, trauma, family and relational issues, life transitions, pregnancy, parenting and infertility.

I am currently completing a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Trauma Counseling Certification at Antioch University, and received a Bachelor’s in Applied Science degree in Child, Youth and Family Studies with honors from Edmonds College. When not studying or working, I enjoy spending time with my partner and our furry kids, my adult children, and friends, cooking, going to any type of musical performance, museums, and being outdoors.
