About

Jeremy Ortman, LMHC, LPC, ClinIcal Director

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York and a Licensed Professional Counselor in New Jersey.  In addition to my private practice, I have taught at a graduate level at Columbia University, Teachers College and New York University.  Formerly, I oversaw the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Counseling department at the HIV/AIDS organization, GMHC.  I earned an advanced Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Columbia University, Teachers College and a Bachelor's Degree from Brandeis University.

My style is interactive, practical, and infused with sensitivity and a sense of humor. My approach is informed by multiple schools of thought including Psychodynamic Therapy, Attachment Theory, and Relational Psychotherapy. Integrating these philosophies enhances my ability to adapt to the unique needs of each person I work with.

Learning about the way you attach, to yourself and to others, can guide our understanding of your particular issues. Acceptance, curiosity and compassion are cornerstones of healing. Tuning into your mind/body connection can lead us to achieve increased emotional regulation, lessen depression and anxiety, and better reduce your symptoms.

My commitment to professional development is reflected in my pursuits in mindfulness, personal narrative writing, and EMDR.  I’m inspired by film, music, poetry, and pop culture and often utilize aspects of these and other art forms as reference points in my therapeutic work. I have extensive experience working with creative professionals, the LGBTQIA+ community, and stressed out New Yorkers of all kinds.
